Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were notified by a individual who noticed a car in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.

Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.

A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism left him without words and required to be resolved quickly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
